Get ready to choose your own adventure at Compass, a fusion event highlighting the unique offerings of Rochester, NY and the Northeast. 

From diverse DJs and performers, to a variety of dance styles taught by expert dance instructors, Compass will truly fuse creativity and community through movement.

WHAT MAKES THIS EVENT DIFFERENT

  • Choose Your Own Adventure Concept: This event is designed to encourage intentionality and creativity as you carve your own path in a way that is uniquely enriching to you. 

  • The Flower City: This event is a celebration of dance in the city of Rochester, Upstate, NY and the Northeast.

  • Unique Local Instructors: You will have the opportunity to access instructors you won’t find at other Fusion events: Our instructors are predominantly local, and are experts in a range of specific genres of dance. We will have 12 total teachers and 11 total classes!

  • Range of Dance Styles: We are specifically featuring solo dance classes (Krump, Burlesque, Bellydance) alongside partner dance classes (Brazilian Zouk, Urban Kiz, West Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, Blues, Interplay, Fusion). 

  • Playful DJs: Our DJs have been thoughtfully chosen for their range of musical expertise, and their love of experimentation. We will have 10 DJs and 15 hours of social dancing!

  • Local Exploration: We have activities planned that encourage exploration of the local area, including local dance communities, local landmarks, food, and culture.

EVENT CONCEPT

With the “Choose your own Dance Adventure” formatting, the theme will be based on a summertime adventure, and will guide attendees to explore different aspects of their dancing. Compass refers to finding your own journey, as well as 4 important ways you can explore dance: 

  1. Inviting ourselves to dance (Fire)

  2. Connecting with the ground (Earth)

  3. Engaging fully with the music (Air)

  4. Co-creating dance with a partner (Water)

We will have classes during the day on Saturday and Sunday, and DJed social dances on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. We will also plan some fun adventures for attendees on Thursday evening and Friday afternoon, TBD.

COLLECT TOKENS

  • Earn tokens as you make choices about what aspects of your dancing and the weekend you want to explore 

  • There will be 10 token types in total. You can only earn 5, so choose wisely! 

  • Earn tokens for which classes you attend, which DJs sets you dance to, a Rochester themed scavenger hunt to explore the City, and more!
